names and month of death of members who passed away during the past year. We also have a Garden of Remembrance

Peter David Chellew
September 29th, 1935 - September 4th, 2009
Peter passed
away at the Royal Jubilee Hospital following complications from heart surgery. Pete
was born in Sturgeon Falls, ON and proudly served in the Air Force for 33 years. He
was an athlete and avid sports enthusiast winning many awards as an all-star pitcher and goaltender during his service career. Pete was a proud member of 888 Wing and
put in many hours on the Wing's renovations doing whatever job he was asked to do. He
will be missed…..
Elizabeth
Barbara Lucas
March 6, 1933 - August 14, 2009
Dear
wife of Jim Lucas, Barb battled her illness with courageous strength and dignity. Barb
worked for the Bay in St. Albert and Ottawa for many years and her passions included shopping in the housewares section of
the Bay, cooking, gardening, crafting and time spent with her family and close friends and most of all she loved being a Grandma
and Nana..
William
"Mo" Morrison
May
6th 1931 - July 11th, 2009
Mo
passed away peacefully at home in Comox. Mo enlisted in the RCAF/CF in 1949 and
served until 1985. He worked as an Air Frame Technician during his years in the
military and after at NDT and AERE. During his years of service he received many
certificates and awards for his professionalism. On retirement he joined 888
Wing where he served on the executive for several years including one term as President.
Mo loved to fish, hunt and travel.
Robert Reid Levia
13th February 1933 to 17th May 2009
Bob was born in Brockville, Ontario. He spent 33 years as a pilot serving in the
RCAF and CAF stationed in Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Greenwood, Nova Scotia, Summerside PEI, Edmonton, Yellowknife, Unmogip (India/Pakistan),
two tours in Comox finishing up as CO of CFS Baldy Hughes. He retired to Comox in 1988 where he enjoyed hunting, fishing
and travel.
Hugh Campbell
1923 - 2009
Hugh passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital, Comox, BC on 23rd March 2009. Born and raised
in Scotland, Hugh's early working years were spent at the shipbuilding works in Prestwick. He emigrated to Canada and
subsequently worked for BC Hydro on the Prairies and upon moving to BC, for the School Board in the Comox Valley. Hugh
was well-known for the beautiful needlepoint artwork that he produced. He was a member of 888 Wing for a number of years
and his weekend visits to "the round table" will be missed.
Spencer Rohne
1922 - 2009
Spencer passed away suddenly on March 10, 2009 at the age of 86. He was born in Inwood, Manitoba. He spent
most of his life in the Forces from 1954 to 1972. He faithfully attended Remembrance Day every year and was an active member
of the Canadian Legion and 888 Wing. For many years he was also involved with Ducks Unlimited and the Fish & Game Club.
Cecil Raymond Donovan
1924 - 2009
Cec passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Comox, BC on Sunday, February 22nd
2009. Cec was a long time member of 888 (Komox) RCAF Wing and Branch 160 of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Albert (Bert) H. Linder
June 1921 - 27th December 2008
Bert served in the RAF as a boy entrant at the age of 16 and served in England during World War II. He immigrated
to Canada in 1948 and settled in Calgary, Alberta. In 1968 he moved to Merrit, BC and then to Comox in 1974. Bert was very
active in the communities in which he lived holding down numerous positions in the many service organizations he joined. He
worked in the field of Municipal Parks and Recreation for over 25 years prior to his retirement and received a lifetime membership
in the BCRPA. He enjoyed a number of activities including sports and particularly loved music and entertaining. His sense
of humour will be sorely missed.
Kenneth Stanley Durrant
18th September 1932 - 14th December 2008
Born in Victoria and raised in Campbell River, Ken excelled in all that he did. He was an exemplary pilot;
receiving numerous commendations for his work. He saved lives and was honoured by his country with the Order of Military Merit.
Among his numerous postings, Ken served on 414 Sabre Squadron in Baden-Baden. He served in Egypt with UNEF as CO of 116 Transport
Unit. His final posting was with 442 Search & Rescue in Comox where he retired. Ken was a hero to some and friend to all.
A champion skeet shooter, Ken raised bees, and he could fish like no other!
Jack Deakin
10th April , 1932 - 26th November , 2008
Jack was born in Ottawa, Ontario. He enjoyed many adventures associated with his military service of 36 years.
His career took him to France; South, Central and Northwest USA as well as Yellowknife. Jack had four loves in his life -
fishing, skiing, motorcycling and flying.
Anne Teresa Gibbon
3rd October 1937 - 20th November 2008
Born in Glascow, immigrated to Canada in 1947 and settled in Victoria with her family. She met a young naval
cadet and married Ted in 1958 to embark on a 50 year endurance test as a military wife. She nurtured her children while he
served and supported him wherever his appointments took them. A 30 year breast cancer survivor she was a long serving member
of the Canadian Cancer Society devoting her considerable energy and compassion to counselling others who were afflicted. Anne
was a founding member of Hope Afloat Canada, the Comox Valley’s breast cancer survivors team and helped keep the stroke
with her drumming.
