A
typical June in the Comox Valley…rain, wind and wet golfers!!! But the
abundance of beautiful blooms helps to make up for it!!!
888
has been literally bustling with activity! The Pacific Group Annual General Meeting
went really well. 101 (North Island) Squadron once again provided those very
tasty fish and chips. After dinner, Russ Hellberg did a Powerpoint presentation outlining their past achievements and future
plans. We are constantly amazed at the amount of energy these people exhibit!!! They are not only an asset to AFAC but to their community!!! The meeting itself went very smoothly. Don McNabb
hands over the office of President of Pacific Group to Jan Hogan on 1st July. Many
thanks to Don McNabb for all his work over the past year, and congratulations to Jan on being elected to this position. A Secretary and Vice-President are still needed.
If you are interested in filling one of these positions, or know of someone who is, please contact the Wing. A most enjoyable dinner/dance wound up the activities. Country
Catering once again provided a delicious Baron of Beef buffet and we enjoyed dancing to the music of Rick Benn.
Duke
Reid, our Membership Chair, is busy with renewals at the moment. The draw for
the Pathfinders was made at the General Meeting on 4th June. Associate Winner
was Bill Mumford; Regular winner was Carl Munn! Congratulations, gentlemen!!!
Deadline for renewals is 30th June. After that, National imposes at $5 late fee!
Our
new executive was sworn in at the June 4th General Meeting. Check back in a week
or two for their pics and bios!!! Dick Woodman has served us well as our Honourary
President, but feels it is time to step down. Stepping into those big shoes is K.D. Macdonald who has served the Wing
well over the past years, including two years as President. You know he'll do us proud!
And
here is a message from Roy Summerhayes who is webmaster of Seniors 101:
"I have just added a new section to Seniors 101 that I think may be of interest to Wing members knowing that one
or two of them like a glass in their hand from time to time. The new section is called "Apples, Hops & Grapes". It's a
list of all, I hope, of the cideries, brew pubs and vineyards on the Island complete of course with their web sites. I now
realise that the Island is now even more self sufficient than I thought; we don't need to go to the Okanogan for a
wine fest, we can have our own right here. Cheers, Roy. www.seniors101.ca " For sure, I'll be checking this out!
Our
last Pub Grub is coming up this weekend and what a great job those volunteer cooking teams have done over the past few months!!! I think the Wing could challenge just about any restaurant in the Comox Valley when
it comes to the serving of good food at great prices!!! Take a bow folks!!!
And,
of course, that brings us right into our summer Steak BBQ's! The BBQ's will take
place even if summer eludes us!!! Still a few spots on the volunteer cooking
list, so get your team together and make it happen!!!
Another
great Hawaiian Night is scheduled in August…yup, pig on a spit in the BBQ pit!!!
Roger and his crew found that you really don't have to start cooking at 3am…perhaps they can sleep in until 6am
this year!!! Whatever…it's going to be a great feast and I hear there will
be some "suitable" entertainment!!!
Do
check out our recent events on the Photo Albums page and all the rest of the news is available in Contrails on Line!!! Have a wonderful summer (of course
it will happen!!!)
