386 (Komox) Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron held a "Depart With Dignity" parade for former Commanding Officer, Major John (Jack) Shapka, MM, CD (retired). The Reviewing Officer was Lieutenant Colonel Deborah McKenzie, 19 Wing Administration Officer. Representing Branch 160 Royal Canadian Legion, Comox, was Mr. John Paulin, First Vice President. Major Shapka was recognized by the Prime Minister of Canada, Chief of the Defence Staff, Commander of Air Command and the Commander of Maritime Pacific to show their appreciation and recognition of more than 45 years of devoted service, dedication and professionalism to the Canadian Forces and the Air Force. Mrs. Chris Shapka also received an Air Command Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of her devotion, unfailing support and understanding that made possible Jack's contribution to the Canadian Forces and the Air Force. LCol McKenzie presented the military certificates, Major Richard Mudryk, presented the certificate from the Regional Cadet Support Unit and Mr. Paulin presented Jack with a one year free membership in the Canadian Legion.
